I was so convinced in like 2 or 3 when Alexius started to look for her uncle that he had to be involved with the bigger plot since he couldn’t be found. Such a great twist to me. I do kind of hate that her brother got Turned. I was rooting for a bite from his girlfriend especially when she was getting him out. I must have missed that he was completely drained.
By the time the girls get there, Declan is already drained and given his uncle’s blood. He was enough ahead of them.
This was a great novel! So much to unpack. First, I must say I love how fierce Everly is. She has become so much stronger and independent. I love that for her. We got so read so many more Alexius POV which was great too. I had so much fun reading their tandem early chapters how much they were struggling with their attraction for each other and then they had such an explosive energy once they became lovers. Then they became more settled in a way, able to focus on things. I had to laugh a bit when Everly said how great the sex had been she had even been open to accept Lexi 😂
I must say I am a bit sad Declan is now a vampire. I was rooting for him to stay human, or if given the choice, to be a werewolf. It felt like he was happy being surrounded by the love of Lexi’s family. He was experiencing having the love and care of a mother again and that kind of breaks my heart a bit. I am glad Lexi is open to stand by him. For a minute I thought Callahan and Maria might push to keep him in LA and have him join her nest. As members of the Tribunal, both could have pushed for that if they had wanted to but I’m glad they didn’t want to get in the way of Everly. I guess Maria was really impressed by how Everly handled Henry at the end. Now she gets to write a report about her amazing performance for Isaiah 🤭
Speaking of Isaiah, good for him to show up at the end! 😒 I can’t believe he spent all those months locked in torturing Solon. It’s both impressive and sad. He was consumed by it so much that he stopped taking care of himself. That was both dangerous and stupid for a man in his position. I am glad Alexius was able to set him straight. It felt like an adult chastising a child for a bit and could see a glimpse of what that may have looked like when they were much younger and Jacob was still around. 😅
I am looking forward to seeing what Kristen has in mind for Everly, the beserker junior, Alexius and now Declan, who seemed to have taken his new reality better than expected. Will he be chilled about his sister’s relationship with Alexius now that they share a living space. Will tempers flare now with two Abbots in the mix? I am sure Rupert and the rest of the household staff are placing bets somewhere 😂
It sure feels like a nest now that there are 3 vampires in Savanah now. How will the coven react to this and how involved is the younger generation of this coven is in the events of Jacky Leon series. I am very suspicious that they might be, since there are no other supernaturals in that city.
Lol Y’all got to remember that there are SO MANY witches (literally millions and of all different power levels, they are a percentage of the human population). It’s unfathomable that they are all involved in the same plots and problems across different series. So let’s leave Jacky plots in Jacky for the moment.
But you will probably see the Savannah coven in Everly and a future very witchy series that will show off more angles of their loose world that isn’t nearly so tight knit as any other supernatural.
As for Declan… yeah. Yeah I did that to him. Felt bad. Not the first or the last thing I’ll feel bad for this series with the cast of characters here. One thing is that Callahan had no claim. He couldn’t. Maria just wouldn’t. She needs to stay on Alexius’ good side. This goes to the point of political politeness that is mentioned in the book. Just because they potentially can doesn’t mean they always will, especially not when dealing with other powerhouse supernaturals. So Declan gets to leave with his sister because no one cared to pick that fight. It’s an unnecessary one. Truthfully, having Declan is probably more of a problem than a help for either one so might as well let the sister whisk the man away.
I love the slow burn tension, but probably even more when finally it snaps!
Alexius’ jealousy was fun to read after seeing him so controlled and detached.
It’s interesting to read and understand more about the depth of a vampire obsession like Isaiah’s with Jacob’s killers, alexius’ with Everly, Henry with the idea of a family
Is their nature always demanding for them to obsess over something? Everly was obsessed with keeping her brother human, now that he is a vampire will she develop a new fixation?
Karma, Henry, will follow you anywhere. Creepy level 100 though for that guy. Happy that Everly got her revenge! Berserker mode like her lover sounds very interesting and fun.
I’m curious to see the implications of Everly being now protected by the coven spell.

Like addiction, obsession is somewhat core to their psychology. In a lot of ways, addiction and obsession go hand in hand, overlapping in so many ways, even if they aren’t the same thing. They all handle it very differently with different levels of personal strength to fight against the problems or avoid them. If they let it get out of control, they have problems. Some deal more with obsession issues while others have more addiction issues thanks to the need for blood, but every vampire deals with these types of problems their entire immortal lives.
Becoming a supernatural changes a human and this isn’t the first time I introduced the concept of that. Werecats become more isolated, more introverted, and need far more personal space than they used to. They have to teach themselves to fight that or be raised in a way that gives them strong coping tools. Though, the longer they live, the more normal they think it is to not talk for a century to anyone they consider friends. Werewolves start craving community, but also hierarchy, and knowing their place in it even if they were once a loner. Things can break the trends, but those are exceptions, not rules. In general, the magic does the same thing to all of them. Same problem with vampires having addiction and obsession issues.
I’m really curious to see what the dynamic is going to be like with Declan now living in Savannah with them and adjusting to being a vampire. Is he actually going to adjust faster/easier than Everly like they’re all thinking or is he going to go a little crazy being cooped up and away from Lexi? And I can’t imagine how awkward it’s going to be for him to be near Everly and Alexius with his newly heightened senses… maybe some noise canceling headphones are in his future.

The hollow Everly now feels…. I’m sorry she feels that. I do have a potential solution though. I understand its usually very difficult for werewolves to get pregnant. But, what if, Lexi is in the early undetectable stages? Then all of them could have a new little Abbott to love. Everly could heal that hollow in her heart. It would ensure that Lexi and Declan still have a chance. And i think a new baby would be really good for Alexius to be exposed to. Get him to “lighten up” a little.
Its just an idea.
Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thank you for getting it out to us. And I’m so pleased for you that you were able to overcome the block you had!
I was wondering if Lexi would end up pregnant too because of her mom and the pack she came from
Question as an author to understand. How would Yiva’s original pack have any bearing on it?
It just seems like they have females who are fertile like she was able to have a werewolf pup born to her and for some reason right now the female tribunal Leaders name is escaping me but she has a werewolf daughter if I’m not mistaken when she born a werewolf unless that’s my own imagination but I thought you alluded to her being born a werewolf also so I was thinking genetics
Ooh. Oh no. Corissa’s pack has nothing to do with fertility. It has everything to do with killing people. I’ll provide some context.
It took hundreds of years for Yiva to get pregnant. Corissa and Callahan only have 1 child themselves in a 2000 year relationship. The members of the pack are no more or less fertile than any other werewolf. Both noted cases are normal.
Corissa’s pack is mostly female warriors throughout the ages, ones the misogynist old male alphas would over look or worse (and misogyny among the older male werewolves has been discussed in the Jacky’s series and other Tribunal Archives books here and there). She has males, but much of her personal pack is women.
I like that idea just because Declan said he wanted kids and now that he is a vampire can’t. I also just want to see a closer look at the young supernatural baby of werecarts or werewolf because I have questions there. The closest we get is zuri in Jacky’s story but it never says if he is a werecat or human. Do they come out and smell one way or the other? Does that come later like with puberty? How early in life is the first shift? Are there tiny puppy werewolves? While I absolutely love the idea of Heath and Jacky being the ones to answer those questions I would love one for Declan just because he wanted to be a dad so much and for Everly to be an aunt. Jacky’s story is still my absolute favorite or any of these books but Everly is a very close second and this is my favorite book in her series so far!
I understand the want. But I am a childless person who doesn’t want to write pregnancy and childrearing on page most days. And let’s be clear. There’s a difference between infants and a preteen like Carey was at the start of Jacky’s series.
Some things I’ll almost never do is make my main character pregnant before the epilogue, and certainly not in a series. I say almost because my mind could be shifted, I could decide otherwise, but I write books mostly for me. I’ve actually scrapped plots because I lost interest with the major part of them that I would have to deal with in them. Because they seemed like a good idea until I was faces with writing it, then it gave me writer ick.
I can say there’s some canon I’ve already written. Babies be shifting and the moon cursed parents would know on birth or pretty quickly. Amir, Zuri and Kushim’s child, is not a werecat. Best person to look for about that information is Aisha, because she raised Makalo as a werecat from birth.
As for Declan, let’s say I’m fascinated by the tragedy of people not getting what they want. No, Lexi isn’t pregnant. They wrapped it up. They weren’t married or actually ready for kids together. He also didn’t want to be a vampire and I did that to him. Because books have no stakes if I give everyone (the characters) what they want all the time and there’s a surprise around the corner to suddenly solve all their problems… And I like stakes. I like feeling like I could write my characters lose and it means something.
Love the book. Not going to lie I would have liked to have seen everybody’s reaction to Everly killing Henry like Lexie having an aha moment like oh she really can take me in a fight. Kind of like when we got the reaction when she was protected Alexius when he passed out her lap and they all flinched when she hissed at them. Will they ever feed from each other? Will that Bond them further or will it make them crazy if they do something like that? Is there such a thing similar to a mate bond/soul mates in your world for vampires?
There’s no fated mates in most of this universe. Cambions and nagas are the only two who have it or similar I’ve shown so far. Nagas having fully fated mates and cambions having almost fated mates, somewhere between fated mates and the mate bond of the moon cursed. Mate bonds for the moon cursed are pure choice. They have to decide to be open, without secrets entirely to the other person and it should form under the right circumstances.
Vampires can exchange blood regularly, which changes the weaker but also creates a bond that could fade if they walk away from each other. So it’s active choice that they have to maintain if they ever decide their relationship gets to that point. Many vampires, like Alexius (though he’s one of the most extreme cases), do not want anyone with their blood. To say a couple is blood bonded or blood lovers or similar is to say they have practically married and hard to get between and break up. They want to be unified. But it can always be ended, nothing is so permanent with vampires as the mate bond or anything else.
Thanks for the explanation I really appreciate that it brings clarity to things that I’ve always been wondering in your other two series it’s cool to see the author’s perspective and her thought process of how it all plays into the world she created I really enjoy your world that you created.

So much in the book to unpack and digest that its hard to know where to start. It was really good that we got to see a different side to Callaghan, albeit limited. I was very surprised that he didn’t raise objections when he found out Declan was related to a vampire, let alone when he was turned. I was expecting to see him go off on one and deny any further contact between Declan and Lexi, but he didn’t.
It was also interesting to see a little more of Maria, although we only saw a little bit she treated Everly quite well. It would be interesting to see Everly getting closer to Maria and being on her side whilst Alexius is on IIsaiah.
One of the main thought triggering bit for me was actually the fight between Everly and Henry. Once again she has shown extraordinary strength and powers for her age, shocking everyone which I know everyone in the books have attributed to Claires blood in Edwin. I wonder though, there have bee multiple times she has been described as “Fiery”, even a Vampire commented when she was human that her blood tastes fiery or like the sun (not got the books to hand to provide exact quote) – so based on this I wonder – is there something unique about Everly or her blood that becoming a vampire could awaken? Could be dormant Fey blood, could be witch blood or could be something altogether new – it would be very interesting and certainly impactful.
Callahan already knew about Declan. It’s why Callahan hired Declan. To be nice to Everly because she was letting Declan just exist without a safety net and she had helped him in book 2.
I have to say, the book really was worth the wait!
I love how Everly evolves to be a strong, independent woman and how Alexius respects her even while being domineering (in a sexy way ;) ). Since they started out as total introverts, it seems fitting, that they still have their own space – and, I guess, there is still a lot of progress to their relationship left for us to look forward to :) (I really hope, they will get to the point enetually, where they share their blood. So romantic *sigh*)
In regards to Declan: I don’t think it is such a bad thing, that he was turned. If he wants to stay with Lexi (and still be in contact with his sister), he would inevitably be a part of the supernatural world. This way, at least he will be (more) able to protect himself. And he won’t have to age while his wife stays young. It is sad, that he can’t have kids anymore, but he will still be able to adopt, so there is that.
Henry though… yes, he is an ass, but I pity him more than I hate him. It is unforgivable to turn random people, let them kill innocents and give them up without regret when finally seeing an opportunity to get to his “real” relatives. But all that is the end of a very long and lonely existence that always seems to have been centered around family. Being a vampire only amplifies this obsession. Could he have fought against it? I don’t know how many generations he watched over (and had to see die) before Everly was even born. Thinking that men are better than women should have been a “normal” opinion during the time he was turned. That he did not change since makes him an ass. That his own existence is more worth to him than that of any other person is also despicable. That does not negate that I would not want to be in his position, to watch children you love grow up and die over and over again. I really love that you can write a character, that you can pity and hate at the same time – he seems more complex and real to me than other book villains.
I like that this book was less “high stakes” than the one before. It left more room to concentrate on the relationships (familial and romantic).
So: Thank you for this book and I am really looking forward to how Everly and Alexius (and Declan and Lexi, Rupert and all the other wonderful characters) will evolve and (hopefully) flourish in the next one ;)
Wow, poor Declan being turned hit a bit too close to home.
I lost my life four years ago after developing myalgic encephalomyelitis, a chronic neuro-immune disease, which left me unable to do anything (except, luckily, read books occasionally). Life gone, dreams gone, future gone. So I really emphasize with Declan. It will be interesting to see how he deals with it in the future.
He seems fine now, but having ones dreams shattered like this comes with a lot of grief, over and over.
I am also curious where Everly’s and Alexius’ relationship will go. At this point, there seems to be mostly lust between the two. He is fascinated by her inner strength and cleverness, on her side there must be an element of admiration and respect, but will that (and the lust) be enough, long term? We will see!
